MOLLY ECKES FLOWERS

Landscapes
My husband and I do a great deal of travelling, and the views we see become priceless memories. From the Low Country of South Carolina to the moors of Yorkshire, UK, the scenes that unfold before us are as unique and varied as the people who inhabit them.
17" x 23" In 1794 a canal was built to barge goods from Basingstoke, Hampshire to London. The canal is no longer used for trade, but families bring their children and dogs to play in the park, walk along the towpath, and float on the water. My challenge was to recreate the scene in fabric and thread. Price: $1175
33" x27" While on a walk one beautiful autumn day, I was struck by the sight of a tall, majestic tree with golden leaves, bathed in sunlight. She rose high over the other trees, as if she ruled the forest. Price: $2860
16” x 23” The moors in Yorkshire, UK, can be a desolate place for much of the year. The landscape that stretches on either side of the highway is nothing but scruffy grass and dark, scraggly patches of dormant heather. However, in August, the grass becomes succulent and the heather blooms. The moors become a glorious mass of purple for as far as the eye can see, enjoyed by all who pass through – including the black-faced sheep of Yorkshire. Price: $950
26” x 33.5” As the mist lifted from Jenkins Creek in South Carolina's Low Country, the marsh and opposite bank materialized before my eyes. My challenge to myself was to capture the ethereal quality of the marsh in the morning in fabric and thread. “Jenkins Creek” represents all that is wonderful on the South Carolina coast. One might imagine dolphins cavorting in the brackish water while turtles hide in the marsh grass. Price: $2625

18" x 13” Mounted on stretcher frame The community in which I live is in the middle of a wildlife habitat. Our walking trails are therefore elevated boardwalks, as much for the protection of the local flora and fauna as it is for the dozens of people who walk there every day. The woods abound with deer, armadillos, squirrels, wild boar, and even birds of prey. As we wind our way through the trees, who knows what we may see in the underbrush or around that corner up ahead? Price: $590
35” x 23” Life in our community can be a party nearly every day – thus the carnival colors. Our days end in spectacular sunsets, when the sky turns pink just before twilight. To me, our community is very much a Paradise, and I hope this love shows through. Price: $2425
